Members of Team UK and Team USA at the 2024 Britain's Cup
When Team USA touches down in London’s Heathrow airport early Monday morning, it will be the beginning of a week of activity and awareness unlike anything yet in international FlingGolf. The players, hailing from states as far and wide as Pennsylvania, Missouri, Texas, North Carolina and Delaware will seek to retain the Cup against a very competitive Team Europe, with both teams expanding from 8 to 10 players since last year's inaugural tournament.
While the official Ryder Cup-style competition will take place at the Iford Golf Centre in Bournemouth, the lead up to the weekend will see several events showcase the sport to the media and a growing UK fan and player base. Those will include a Media Day on Wednesday with European media access to players from both teams, a Pro-Am tournament on Thursday pairing FlingGolf pros with traditional golfers or FlingGolfers, and then the head to head competition begins on Friday and culminates Sunday afternoon.
FlingGolf UK President Paul Barran is the driving force behind the week’s events and the growth of the sport in the UK. He is also the owner/manager of the Iford Golf Centre and 5 other golf courses in southern England. It was Paul’s vision to build off of the 10 year foundation of FlingGolf in the US and incorporate that rapidly into the UK market.
"This year's Britain's Cup represents a massive leap forward for FlingGolf in the UK. We're not just hosting a tournament - we're building a movement. The difference between 2024 and 2025 is night and day in terms of community engagement, media presence, and the sheer scale of what we're delivering."
Barran, who is also Captain of Team Europe, continued, 'What excites me most is seeing FlingGolf break down barriers that traditional golf sometimes creates. We've got CrossFit athletes, hockey players, NHS support groups, and workplace wellness teams all discovering the sport. It's that inclusive nature - anyone can pick up a FlingStick and have fun on the course within 30 minutes - that's driving real grassroots growth across the UK."
The tournament is sanctioned by World League FlingGolf and will follow the WLF’s official rules. The formats will all be match play and include Fourball on Friday, Foursome (Alternate Shot) on Saturday, and on Sunday, Individual Match Play for all 10 players on each team. Each team is made up of 3 women and 7 men.
New Swarm is the lead sponsor for the tournament and is providing custom FlingSticks showcasing both American and European Union Flag heads for each of the players.
While FlingGolf play has reached the shores of 39 countries to date, The Britain's Cup represents the most coordinated international effort for the sport outside of US borders. The expectation of all involved is that this showcase of competition and community will become a model for FlingGolf growth in more countries and regions to come.
