FlingGolf and its parent company PlusOne Sports are proud to welcome Rear Admiral (Ret.) Mark Boensel as the newest member of its’ growing Advisory Board. Admiral Boensel was introduced to the new sport of FlingGolf in the fall of 2014, and immediately saw its recreational potential for military service members and their families. Recognizing the need to increase the use of golf courses on the nation’s military bases, Boensel identified FlingGolf as the perfect sport to entice new players from the armed services to get out and enjoy those courses.
“FlingGolf is a natural fit for military personnel who wish to escape the stress of service for a couple of hours and engage in a fun, more athletic alternative to golf. Quality recreational time with their families is also something that military service members really value; FlingGolf really expands the opportunity for the whole family to have a great outing on the course. The fact that FlingGolf is easy to learn and the equipment is lighter and much less expensive is an added bonus,” said Boensel. Several military bases have already introduced FlingGolf to our nation’s Armed Service men and women, and Boensel sees nationwide growth potential.
“I speak for the entire PlusOne Sports team when I say we are very excited to have Mark on board”, said Alex Van Alen, PlusOne’s CEO and Founder. “His proven experience, excellent reputation and distinguished career in the military has already helped expose the benefits that FlingGolf can bring to a young military personnel and the golf facilities that are looking for increased use. We are very much looking forward to working with Mark to expand our reach and ability to provide a fun recreational opportunity to our active servicemen and women as well as our wounded veterans.”
Rear Admiral Boensel has a distinguished military career. He assumed command of the Naval Air Station in Jacksonville, Florida in 2001. During that tour of duty he was selected for promotion to the rank of Rear Admiral. In July of 2004, Admiral Boensel returned to Washington D.C. as the Director of the Chief of Naval Operations Environmental Readiness Division. From 2005-2007, he served as Commander of the Navy Region Southeast. Upon receiving his second star, Admiral Boensel commanded the Navy Region Mid-Atlantic until his retirement from active duty in 2012. Admiral Boensel will work with PlusOne Sports and FlingGolf to expand the reach of this exciting new sport to military bases across the nation, as well as overseas. He is a resident of Jacksonville, Florida.
