Logistics

Schedule details are still being finalized, but the San Diego Open begins with the Doubles Tournament on Saturday, September 7th at 12:00pm with a shotgun start at 1:00pm. The Individual Tournament will begin on Sunday, September 8th at 8:00am. For the full schedule click here.

Family and friends are welcome to attend and cheer on the participants and there is no cost to attend. However, during the preliminary round, access to the full course may be limited. We are working with the course to provide full gallery access during the finals. Also, you may be required to agree to a waiver or other terms and conditions required by the course to walk the grounds. Cart access will not be guaranteed and your ability to rent a cart will be at the discretion of the golf course. Please reach out to us directly with any concerns.

We recommend staying in the San Marcos and Escondido area to have good proximity to the course. There are plenty of hotel and AirBnB options nearby, including timeshares at the Welk Resort. If you stay near downtown San Diego, please note that you will be 45-60 minutes from the course.

It may be cheaper to ship your FlingsStick to your hotel than check it on an airplane. Check with your hotel about their shipping policy.

There are no official practice round, but we encourage you to book tee times at the Welk Resort, especially on Thursday and Friday. Let them know in the clubhouse that you are there for the tournament for a discounted rate. Tournament tee markers should be in place for all divisions by mid-morning on Thursday.

The Tournament

There will be cash prizes and awards for the Individual Tournament across all divisions, generally payable to most finalists. The Doubles Tournament will award the Fling Bling to the division champions. Medals will generally be given to at least the Top 5 finalists in each divisions.

There will also be additional awards for each event, including awards for Top Newcomer and Top Military.

The San Diego Open will follow the World League FlingGolf (WLF) Official Tournament Rules of Play and the Event Formats for Individual Tournaments and Doubles Tournaments. PLEASE NOTE: the rules may be modified or updated up until the beginning of Tournament play. In addition to posting on this page, we will send out any updated rules to registered players as soon as they are made.

Yes. All competitors will be provided carts for both the Individual and Doubles tournaments.

We will be setting out WLF markers at each course before the Tournament for each division: Men's (Blue), Masters (Red) and Women's (Yellow). We anticipate that the markers will be up by Thursday mid-morning. Although we will create customized tee placements for the tournament, check out the scorecard for the Fountains Course. In general, Men will be using the Blue tees, Masters the White tees and Women the Red tees, however, there will be modifications, especially with respect to longer Par 3s on Holes 13, 14 & 15 which we anticipate will be moved up a tee box or between current tee placements.

FlingGolf Clubs are organized teams of 6-8 players that compete in an "overlay" tournament, where their results in the Individual and Doubles tournaments contribute points towards an overall score that determines a winning Club for the Tournament and also counts towards a season long competition.

Since most Clubs do not have their full membership at every tournament, there are opportunities for unaffiliated players to "fill-in" and become part of the Club for the weekend. This is especially helpful if the Club has an uneven number of players and needs an extra for the Doubles Tournament. Fill-in club members will be eligible for any club medals handed out on Sunday for the top 3 clubs and fill-in players have gone on to become full members of the club that they joined as a fill-in.

If you would like to be considered for pick-up by a Club for the San Diego Open, please indicate on your registration survey. We anticipate that there will be many fill-in slots open for the San Diego Open.

Definitely Not. This is meant to be a more casual and fun event and we encourage all FlingGolfers to participate. We anticipate that some participants will be "unpaired" and we will pair you with another FlingGolfer for the tournament. If you are willing, you might also be added to a FlingGolf Club for the weekend and they will provide you with a Doubles pairing.

Only New Swarm FlingGolf FlingSticks may be used, without custom modifications other than the use of a Putting Slug, customized grips or markings on the FlingStick head. See Rule A.1. in the Official Rules of FlingGolf.

This will be a "pure" FlingGolf event so only one FlingStick may be used.

You may use any regulation golf ball for the tournament events.

Collared shirts are required the course but you may wear shorts and other casual wear. However, since it may be filmed 1) we ask that you dress in a neat and presentable manner and 2) there may be additional restrictions or guidelines on logos. Also, we strongly encourage Clubs and teammates to wear corresponding attire.

It is anticipated that portions of the event will be live-streamed and filmed for online distribution. From time to time there may be a members of film crew filming all or part of the event. In addition, we anticipate that there may be other representatives of the local media.
