PlusOne Sports’ FlingGolf is Official Partner of the Boston Cannons of Major League Lacrosse
BOSTON—April 4, 2016—PlusOne Sports with its innovative new sport, FlingGolf, and the Boston Cannons of Major League Lacrosse announce today that they have formed a partnership for the 2016 MLL Season.
FlingGolf — a fun, fast and thrilling hybrid of golf and lacrosse — is played on a golf course, with a golf ball, and is scored similar to golf. Players use a FlingStick — a lightweight, carbon fiber stick with a high tech cradle for the ball at the end — to launch a regulation golf ball around a golf course, expertly shaping their shots. No modifications to the course are required, and it’s so easy to learn that players can head out to the course in less than a half hour.
As part of the partnership, PlusOne Sports will work directly with Boston Cannons All Star player and tri-captain, Will Manny. Manny, a finalist for the Tewaaraton Award for the best college lacrosse player in 2012, will visit with fans at FlingGolf’s booth and FlingNet at select Cannons home games. Fans will get to experience FlingGolf in this setting before heading out to their favorite golf course. PlusOne Sports/FlingGolf will also once again sponsor the Boston Cannon’s Charity Golf Tournament t at Granite Links Golf Club on October 24, 2016. This event will raise funds and awareness for Boston Children’s Hospital.
“As soon as I picked up the FlingStick, I knew that this sport rocked. I’m able to combine two sports I love – lacrosse and golf – and have a blast out on the golf course. I grab some friends and even if they aren’t big golfers, we still have a great time trying to outdo each other,” said Manny. “I am excited to work closely with PlusOne to get the word out to Cannons fans and the larger lacrosse community about how much fun you can have playing FlingGolf.”
“FlingGolf and PlusOne Sports are thrilled to be named an official partner of the Boston Cannons,” said Alex Van Alen, PlusOne Sports CEO and FlingGolf creator. “It’s a perfect match: FlingGolf uses the skills and energy of lacrosse, but on a golf course. And, Boston is our home base — so we’re honored to share our sport here at home, with our local Cannons. Will Manny’s such a talented lacrosse star, he’s a leader, and he also knows his way around a golf course. This combo is a great way to show off the fun, athleticism and excitement of this growing sport. Here’s to introducing FlingGolf to Cannons fans while we help spread the good word about Major League Lacrosse to our growing legions of FlingGolf fans across the world.”
Players play FlingGolf right alongside golfers, even in the same foursome, which has made it simple for courses to adopt without any modifications. “FlingGolf is great for families and kids alike,” Van Alen added. “We envision that, through working with the Boston Cannons, and with our strong relationship with the National Golf Course Owners Association, many families will attend a game this season and walk away knowing about a new activity they can enjoy as a family — even mixing FlingGolfers with a traditional golfer or two. And we are so proud to support the Cannons efforts to raise funds for the Children’s Hospital.”
Major League Lacrosse (MLL) began play in 2001 to capitalize on the growing demand for world-class field lacrosse driven by dramatic growth in the U.S. lacrosse market, and the Boston Cannons were one of the original six teams to start the league. The MLL was praised and heralded for its on-field play, regarded as the best ever seen. With a year-over-year attendance increase, MLL has continued to lead the sport of lacrosse into the mainstream of competitive team sports and now boasts nine teams across the U.S. The Boston Cannons have continued to bring in some of the highest attendance numbers in the League and continue to strive for another championship win in 2016.
FlingGolf was created by Boston-based PlusOne Sports, LLC, a privately held firm that designed and manufactures the high performance FlingStick in Massachusetts. FlingGolf is now played at hundreds of courses by thousands of players across the USA, Europe, Canada, New Zealand and now Mexico. PlusOne Sports sells FlingSticks and FlingGolf accessories and apparel online and through a growing retail partner network in North America and Europe.
Sacramento, CA. Jeremy Sieverts, Midfielder for the Denver Outlaws, won the 2017 Major League Lacrosse All-Star FlingGolf Invitational on Saturday morning, held at Haggin Oaks Golf in Sacramento. In addition to the $1000 winners purse, Sieverts took home an additional $500 as he also won the closest to the pin on the 14th hole (sponsored by TourMark Grips), and longest fling on the 18th hole. Eric Law, also of the Denver Outlaws came in second, and Brian Phipps of the Chesapeake Bayhawks, came in third in the field of 8 MLL All Stars.
"It was a great experience to be in Sacramento for All Star Weekend and to be able to compete against some of the best lacrosse players in the world on a golf course with FlingGolf as well as the lacrosse field", Sieverts said. 'It was fun to play FlingGolf for the first time and quickly pick up on both distance and accuracy of the FlingStick... and certainly always fun to compete with other MLL Players."
