July 18, 2024. Amesbury, MA. The popular alt-golf-sport is set to make its 3rd straight and first live appearance on the leading sports network in a team based skills challenge format.
Following 2 years of on-course World League FlingGolf play featured on ESPN, FlingGolf's parent company, New Swarm Sports, and the global sports tv network will now join forces for an hour long, LIVE presentation of the sport on August 2. This format will feature the skills that make a successful FlingGolf player as demonstrated by some of the top players in the world, who will compete in a team based format.
"We are very excited about this opportunity to expand our presence on ESPN with an hour long competition this year, as well as to switch up the format to focus on the unique skills that pro FlingGolf athletes are using to reach the top of their game." said Alex Van Alen, CEO of New Swarm. "As more and more fans are familiar with the sport across the US and internationally, it's become clear that so many of them want to dig in and better understand FlingGolf's nuances to improve their approach to the sport. This format will address that curiosity in a really fun but competitive way."
With FlingGolf being played on over 2,000 golf courses and in more than 35 countries, the sport has caught the attention of golfers and non-golfers alike. At first glance, the sport can appear simple, but while it is easier to begin than its more traditional predecessor, golf, there is a very challenging skillset needed for players to reach the higher levels of play.
New Swarm and ESPN will be using this program to highlight those skills using top players from the World League FlingGolf's New Swarm Tour.
John Pruellage, the league's commissioner, believes this format will not only give these players an opportunity to shine and showcase their skills, but also bring in to play the growing team based aspect of the league. "We are seeing more and more of our players, fans and general audience support our team, or club, approach to the league in addition to our individual format. And while it will not be exactly as you see it on tour, the teams experience that our players will be participating in on ESPN will be very entertaining for our fans."
The FlingGolf Skills Challenge will take place in Rock Hill, South Carolina at 9 AM on Friday August 2. WLF Tour players will include Sam Scantron" Scannell (SC), Rosie "Mamacita" Flores (CA), Garry "Bruce Leroy" Callis Jr. (VA), Britt "Reggie Queen" Hammond (DE), Austin "Showtime" Ebersole (PA) and Jake "Island Hopper" Anderson (HI).
Additional skills features will be provided by Ken "Kenzo" Pytluk (CO), Mike "Big Cat" Edwards (PA), Zac "Mountaineer" Mulvey (PA) Ryan "Soldier Boy" Stainbrook (DE) and Christina "Sommerfling" Sommerfield (DE).
