FlingGolf made its debut in Berks County, PA as part of the Hometown Heroes Community Tribute Weekend and raised some important funds for Teachers in the Park, a summer time learning program for area youth.
John Cusatis, Exeter Township Supervisor, was looking for something unique and fun to draw players to the township's Reading Country Club for the event. "I spoke to our pro, Chris Conklin about different ideas. We looked at footgolf, but landed on FlingGolf because we didn't need to make any changes to the course and it can be played without interrupting golfers on the course", Cusatis said. Conklin said, "It worked out beautifully."
The event drew several dozen players from the Reading area, most of whom had never played the sport before. Tim Wolfskill and Jason Florentin played together and quickly took their competition to the next level. After a quick demo from FlingGolf Founder, Alex Van Alen, Jason thanked Alex for "teaching me how to dominate Tim Wofskill" in FlingGolf. Meanwhile, Tim simply said, after quickly getting the hang of it, "it is "Awesome".
Other players included local firefighters, members of the Albright College Mens Lacrosse Team, members of the Reading United AC Soccer Club, and families and friends. FlingGolf has been used to raise funds for youth sports teams and other charitable organizations from New Hampshire to California and will be featured in the Boston Cannons Golf Outing in Massachusetts to raise funds for Boston Childrens Hospital in October.
The event raised over $1,200, Cusatis said, which will be donated to Teachers in the Parks.
