In the fall of 2020, my husband, Dwight, stumbled upon a YouTube video for FlingGolf which intrigued him so much, he went on to look at just about all of them. Over the years, he’d become rather disenchanted with his (traditional) golf game, but FlingGolf certainly looked promising! Dwight purchased a FlingStick, took it to a driving range, and came home and excitedly told me all about it.
I went with him the next day, and we had a blast just getting used to the techniques and seeing how far we could fling the ball! The traditional golfers who were there looked with curiosity, but no one was rude at all. In fact, one man came over to us laughing because he thought Dwight was throwing his club! I recall that we showed at least two people how we were using our FlingSticks and talked to them about FlingGolf. That very night, I ordered my own FlingStick, and my husband and I have been playing regularly ever since.
The aspects which appeal to me most about FlingGolf are essentially everything that appeals to me about traditional golf, except I can’t golf! I love the outdoors, being active, spending quality time with my best friend, and being in nature where I can hear the birds sing and the leaves rustle through the trees. Plenty of times, I have told Dwight how I would enjoy accompanying him for a day of golf, if only to watch and drive the cart. But when he showed me the videos that first night, I was hooked on the idea of playing FlingGolf with him before I even held a FlingStick!
The other significant appeal of FlingGolf is how easy it was to get started, both in practice and in price. We literally had our techniques roughed in after splitting a couple buckets of balls at the driving range. This got us feeling comfortable enough to begin hitting up our local Par 3 course, Brookside. And since all that is needed to play is the one FlingStick, FlingGolf is way more affordable than traditional golf.
Since purchasing our FlingSticks in the fall of 2020, Dwight and I became members at Brookside. There, we have played alongside traditional golfers, participated in super fun tournaments (in which we both placed!), and we are currently playing in Brookside’s Winter League with our friend, Bob Blackman.
Bob joined us one day as a traditional golfer for a couple rounds, and during the rounds, he would at times replay a hole using a FlingStick. By round 3, he was solely using a FlingStick and enjoying the accuracy of his throws as much as he was enjoying NOT carrying any clubs. I happened to have a BalliStick in the car that we were not using, and because Bob is rather tall, it worked quite well for him. I let him borrow it for a couple days of range time and practice at Brookside, and he bought it from me; he then went on to make his first Ace that same week!
Bob quite literally went from being a traditional golfer of over 60 years to a being a FlingGolfer overnight! Dwight and I love being on the Winter League with him, and we are looking forward to the Spring League.
We have played at several other courses in and around our hometown of Roanoke, Virginia, and we have also much enjoyed playing at courses in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. We have been welcomed everywhere we have played. If we were on a course where there was a starter or a course ranger, they have always shown genuine interest at what we were doing. We have been watched, we have coached, and we have let others use our FlingSticks for a few throws. We are always remembered, too, whenever we return to a place. The course owners we have encountered have expressed interest in possibly renting FlingSticks in the future, because they see how accurate we are compared to some traditional golfers, and because they can see that FlingGolf does no damage to their course.
